Enjoy a 47 mile self-guided Great Gardens of North Devon walking holiday on the North Coast of Devon on the South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail.
Offering the chance to visit the gardens of RHS Rosemoor, Clovelly Court Garden and Docton Mill to name a few.
This walking holiday also visits the picturesque Devon coastal towns of Westward Ho!, Clovelly and Hartland Quay.
There is also an option to take a day trip to visit the island of Lundy.
Our self-guided walking holidays are designed with your comfort and enjoyment in mind and can be tailor-made to your own personal requirements.
The routes are clearly way-marked to provide reassurance on your hiking vacation.
We use a selection of guest houses, inns or small hotels with en-suite or private bathroom to ensure you are well rested each night after a busy day hiking and sightseeing. Rest assured that all our accommodation walking holiday providers are hand-picked and offer you that famous British hospitality.
Special diets can be catered for, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free.
We organize the luggage transfer so your bags are at your next accommodation when you arrive. We try to get your bags delivered by 4pm, but this may be delayed due to road conditions.

Our offices are staffed 9am to 9pm during our walking season (March to September) to ensure your walking holiday runs without a hitch.
All our walking holidays are self-guided and you must be a confident map reader and able to navigate from a compass bearing. The weather in the UK and Ireland can change quickly effecting visibility and underfoot conditions. It is important to carry a selection of clothing with you on your hike each day to cope with changing weather conditions. If you are not confident of completing any days walk, do not set out.
This walking holiday in the UK operates March to September and in either direction.
The daily distances are only a suggestion. If you would like to walk longer or shorter distances, we can arrange that too.
Our stated distances include mileage to the accommodation or pickup point and so may not agree with the guide book mileages.
Rest days can be taken in any location.
Why not combine this walk with a hiking tour in another part of the UK or Ireland. Our staff will be happy to advise on necessary transfers.

A deposit of £85 per person is required to secure the booking, with the balance due 6 weeks before departure.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at Great Torrington
You make your own way to Great Torrington. We can assist with coach transfers if necessary. Car parking is available for the duration of the walk and we can return you to your car or station at the end of the holiday.
Day 2: RHS Rosemoor, Torrington 1646, Dartington Glass 3 miles easy
Spend the day visiting RHS Rosemoor, a beautiful mature garden nationally acclaimed with a wide variety of plantings. One of the Royal Horticultural Societies finest gardens making this visit a highlight of any walking holiday. Torrington has the interesting Torrington 1646 Experience, site of the last battle of the English Civil War. Or tour the world renowned Dartington Glass.
Day 3: Torrington to Bideford via Tarka Trail and Tapeley 8 Miles easy
Follow the old railway trail, now part of the Tarka Trail along the River Torridge to Tapeley Park, 60 acres of woodland, lakes and walled kitchen garden. Overnight at Bideford where there is a fine art exhibition in the park.
Optional Day: Optional day trip to Isle of Lundy
Sailings are approximatley 3 times a week. The dates of your holiday can be adjusted to coincide with a sailing. Overnight Bideford.
Day 4: Bideford to Westward Ho! 8 Miles easy
The route follows the other side of the River Torridge to Appledore, a village with a long history of shipbuilding. Then along the beach of Northam Burrows Country Park to Westward Ho! This the only place name in England with an exclamation mark!
Day 5: Westward Ho! to Clovelly 11 miles strenuous
From Westward Ho! the path slowly gains height until you are amid gorse and woodlands strewn with carpets of bluebells in May. After Buck’s Mills, a quaint fishing hamlet, the path joins Hobby Drive, an old carriageway which takes you to the world famous Clovelly, with its cobbled streets and pretty cottages
Day 6: Clovelly and Clovelly Court 2 miles
Send the day enjoying the delights of Clovelly. Perhaps take a boat trip or a paddle. Clovelly Court has a classic Victorian kitchen garden with magnificent lean-to greenhouses surrounded by a 12ft wall.
Day 7: Clovelly to Hartland Quay 10 miles moderate to strenuous
The path makes its way through woodland before emerging on the cliff top above Blackchurch Rock and descending to Mouth Mill. After Hartland Point the scenery changes as the rocks below become jagged and dramatic
Day 8: Hartland Abbey and Docton Mill 5 miles moderate
Visit Hartland Abbey, a charming house with enchanting gardens and woodland walk leading down to a wild Atlantic cove. Please note Hartland Abbey is not open on Fridays and Saturdays. Docton Mill is famous for its bog garden and new magnolia garden. Return to Hartland Quay along the South West Coast Path. The sunset over Hartland Quay will be a fitting end to a memorable holiday.
Day 9: Depart after breakfast
Depart after breakfast or extend your holiday and spend some time in the area.
We can transfer you to your car or you can depart by train or bus.
