Walk Glyndwr’s Way, one of Wales’ long distance walking trails. Hiking in the Heart of Wales from Knighton to Welshpool via Lake Vyrnwy, Machynlleth, Lyn Glaslyn , Llanidloes, and Abbey Cwm-hir
Glyndwr’s Way is a 135 mile (217 km) clearly way-marked long-distance walking trail.
Glyndwr’s Way is the youngest of Wales’ three National Walking Trails, others being Offa’s Dyke Path and The Pembrokeshire Coast Path. The walking holiday begins on the English border, and traverses open moorland, farmland and forest en-route to Machynlleth, on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. Then you walk eastwards and inland again, hiking past beautiful Lake Vyrnwy, to finish the Glyndwr’s Way walking holiday in Welshpool.
This Welsh self guided walking holiday hikes through some of the highlights of Wales and is a great introduction to walking holidays in Wales and the UK.
The Glyndwr’s Way tour walks through some of Wales’ most spectacular landscapes full of wildlife and heritage and The Welshpool and Llanfair Light Steam Railway is on route, one of Wales’ great little steam railways.
Owain Glyndwr was proclaimed Prince of Wales in 1401. His army and guerrilla forces fought against English domination, a battle for Welsh independence which continues in a less violent form until this day. Glyndwr’s Way remembers this folk hero’s contribution to the Welsh nation. Machynlleth, where he established his parliament, is one of several sites en route linked to his life and work.
