Cushendall on Glens of Antrim walking holiday

A 29 mile section of the Ulster Way in Northern Ireland between Ballycastle and Cushendall through the Glens of Antrim along the Moyle Way. This route can be walked in either direction.
This is one of our Moorland Walking Holidays and also one of our Northern Ireland Walking Holidays.
A 27 mile self-guided Glens of Antrim walking holiday on the Moyle Way, part of The Ulster Way.
Its high plateau, deep sided glens and fast flowing rivers are a real contrast to the Causeway Coast Way just a few miles away.
This area is rich in history, dating back to Neolithic times and full of myth and legends.
The glens are full of waterfalls, fast flowing rivers, lush forests and peat bogs.
This route can also be walked in the opposite direction from Ballycastle to Cushendall.
You can combine this Glens of Antrim walking holiday with our walk on the Causeway Coast Way for a longer walking holiday.

We organize the luggage transfer so your bags are at your next accommodation when you arrive. We try to get your bags delivered by 4pm, but this may be delayed due to road conditions.

Our offices are staffed 9am to 9pm during our walking season (March to September) to ensure your walking holiday runs without a hitch.
All our walking holidays are self-guided and you must be a confident map reader and able to navigate from a compass bearing. The weather in the UK and Ireland can change quickly effecting visibility and underfoot conditions. It is important to carry a selection of clothing with you on your hike each day to cope with changing weather conditions. If you are not confident of completing any days walk, do not set out.
This walking holiday in the UK operates March to September and in either direction.
The daily distances are only a suggestion. If you would like to walk longer or shorter distances, we can arrange that too.
Our stated distances include mileage to the accommodation or pickup point and so may not agree with the guide book mileages.
Rest days can be taken in any location.
Why not combine this walk with a hiking tour in another part of the UK or Ireland. Our staff will be happy to advise on necessary transfers.

Optional Day in Belfast
Day 1: Arrive at Cushendall
To start your walking holiday on The Glens Of Antrim Moyle Way walking trail you make your own way to Cushendall, Northern Ireland (Ulster) for your first night’s accommodation. Cushendall is well connected to Belfast by bus. We can assist with coach or train transfers if necessary as well as ferry or plane travel from UK. Car parking is available for the duration of your self-guided walking holiday on The Glens of Antrim Moyle Way
Day 2: Waterfoot or Cushendall to Orra Beg 14.5 or 17 miles
Today you can start your walking with a pleasant coastal walk from Cushendall to the little town of Waterfoot, or we can transfer you to Waterfoot shortening your walk to 14.5 miles. One of the highlights of The Glens of Antrim and Moyle Way walking trail is the Essathothan Waterfall. You then ascend into Glenariff Forest, famous for birds of prey and mixed woodland. Then the walking trail emerges in to open moorland in the shadow of Trostan Mountain before reaching Orra Beg. At Orra Beg you will be met and transferred to Cushendall for your overnight stay.
Day 3: Orra Beg to Ballycastle 11.5 miles
We transfer you back to Orra Beg where the walking is on open moorland in the shadow of Trostan Mountain. The route passes ancient standing stones and through forests, and all around there are great views. The walking trail follows the course of the River Glenshesk with its many waterfalls and a chance to see red squirrels. On walking into Ballycastle the hiking trail follows the route of the old disused railway which ran from Ballycastle to Ballymena under the shadow of Knocklayd Mountain. Ballycastle has a fine selections of bars and restaurants, it also has a fine beach and pretty little harbour.
