Arran Coastal Way Walking Holiday in Scotland

On this Arran Coastal Way walking holiday around the coastal path of the Island of Arran in Scotland, you see castles, caves, standing stones and a variety of wildlife. Situated in the sheltered waters of the Firth of Clyde, the Isle of Arran is the most southerly and the most accessible of all the Scottish islands. Just a short ferry ride across the Firth of Clyde it is a favourite destination for hikers throughout the year.

On this option of the Arran Coastal Way walking holiday you walk 44 miles of the circular walking trail around this beautiful Scottish island, often described as “Scotland in Miniature”. The north of Arran is ruggedly mountainous with granite peaks and deep glens resembling the best Scottish Highland scenery, whereas the south of Arran is gentler with low lying farmland, woodland and moorland.

This magnificent self guided Arran Coastal Way walking holiday combines many varied habitats, a fascinating mixture of seaside paths, forest hiking trails, tidal beaches and rolling hills. Although mostly at low level, it includes some occasional rock scrambling and an optional hike over the Arran’s highest mountain, Goat Fell. All around there are spectacular views across the Firth of Clyde to the east and the Kintyre Peninsula in the west.

You can combine this Arran Coastal Way Scottish Walking Holiday with a walk along the Scottish Higlands Great Glen from Fort William to Inverness on The Great Glen Way for a longer walking holiday.

The hiking trail then leads to within 244m of the summit of the highest mountain on Arran, Goat Fell (874m) with wonderful views if you climb to the top. Descend to the village of Corrie and walk the short distance by road to Sannox. There is an easier low-level route available from Brodick to Sannox.

Day 3: Walk Sannox to Lochranza       9 miles

A day of coastal walking passing the Fallen Rocks, a massive fall of large rocks which fell from the cliffs. Hiking on there are beautiful views over the Firth of Clyde to the Scottish islands of Bute and Cumbrae and the walking trail continues to the most northerly point of the Arran, a huge rock called the “Cock of Arran”. Hiking over Scriodan Rock Fall may involve some rock scrambling at high tide and it is now only a short walk to Lochranza.
