The Shropshire Way walking holiday from Shrewsbury to Ludlow is a 60 mile waymarked trail through the unspoilt countryside of Shropshire in England’s Midlands.
This walking trail is a great introduction to long-distance walking holidays and is suitable for every level of walking ability.
This area is full of history with its many castles, fine traditional timber framed houses and historic towns and villages.
The route can be walked in either direction and for those looking for a longer walking holiday the Shropshire Way walking holiday can be linked to a walking holiday on Offas Dyke Path or the Severn Way.
Our self-guided walking holidays are designed with your comfort and enjoyment in mind and can be tailor-made to your own personal requirements.
The routes are clearly way-marked to provide reassurance on your hiking vacation.
We use a selection of guest houses, inns or small hotels with en-suite or private bathroom to ensure you are well rested each night after a busy day hiking and sightseeing. Special diets can be catered for, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free.
We organize the luggage transfer so your bags are at your next accommodation when you arrive. We try to get your bags delivered by 4pm, but this may be delayed due to road conditions.

Our offices are staffed 9am to 9pm during our walking season (March to September) to ensure your walking holiday runs without a hitch.
All our walking holidays are self-guided and you must be a confident map reader and able to navigate from a compass bearing. The weather in the UK and Ireland can change quickly effecting visibility and underfoot conditions. It is important to carry a selection of clothing with you on your hike each day to cope with changing weather conditions. If you are not confident of completing any days walk, do not set out.
This walking holiday in the UK operates April to September and in either direction.
These daily distances are only a suggestion. If you would like to walk longer or shorter distances, we can arrange that too.
Our stated distances include mileage to the accommodation or pickup point and so may not agree with the guide book mileages.
Rest days can be taken in any location.
Why not combine this walk with a hiking tour in another part of England or the UK. Our staff will be happy to advise on necessary transfers.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at Shrewsbury
To start your walking holiday on The Shropshire Way walking trail you make your own way to Shrewsbury. We can assist with coach or train transfers if necessary. Car parking is available for the duration of your self-guided walking holiday in Englands Midlands. The Shropshire Way connects with the Severn Way in Shrewsbury.
Day 2: Shrewsbury to Pulverbatch 7 miles/11 kms
The Shropshire Way leaves Shrewsbury via the Kingsland Bridge over the River Severn. Walking on via Lyn Hill (only 170m above sea level) offers views of the Wrekin and the hills of the Welsh border. Continuing on through undulating pastures and farmland you soon reach the Pulverbatch area for your overnight stop.
Day 3: Pulverbatch to Bridges 8 miles/13kms
On leaving Pulverbatch the Shropshire Way makes its way via small woods and rolling farmland and then along Darnford Brook before reaching Bridges and the end of todays walk.
Day 4: Bridges to Bishops Castle 11.5 miles/18.5 kms
As you leave Bridges the Shropshire Way soon reaches the Jagged outcrop of Devil’s Chair and a heather ridge known as the Stiperstones. The path then contuines via Linley Hill before reaching the pretty historic town of Bishops Castle with its fine selection of interesting architecture.
Day 5: Bishops Castle to Clun 11 miles/18 kms
Leaving Bishops Castle with its fine selection of Georgian and Tudor half timbered houses and a selection of interesting shops and inn, the Shropshire Way skirts the edge of Colebatch Hill offering good views of the surrounding countryside. The walking trail joins the Offas Dyke Path at Churchtown for a short distance. Todays walk ends in the interesting town of Clun on the banks of the River Unk. The town also has an interesting castle and bridge.
Day 6: Clun to Craven Arms 11 miles/18kms
Leaving Clun your walking holiday takes you through the Walcot Wood and the remains of Iron Age Fort of Bury Ditches dating back to 500BC. The Shropshire Way crosses the River Kemp at Kempton. Todays walk ends in the interesting town of Craven Arms with its selection of shops and resturants. The interesting Stockesay Castle stands on the edge of the town.
Day 7: Craven Arms to Ludlow 11 miles/18 kms
The Shropshire Way leaves Craven Arms via Stockesay Castle and Estate. The walking trail passes through the village of Whittytree and Bromfield before reaching the fine town of Ludlow with its stunning castle and interesting selection shops, resturants and inns. This town as decribed by the poet laureaten John Betjeman ” the loveliest town in England “
